Designed in 1957 by architect Antoni de Moragas Gallissà for his own office, the Moragas lamp is one of the most intimate and personal pieces of modern Spanish design. With a strong rationalist vocation and an elegant and honest construction, this lamp was conceived not only to illuminate but also as a work tool. It is said that Moragas used to leave notes and cards on its shade, inserting them between the textile ribbons that compose it.
Its structure is based on a sober yet generous solid wood cylinder, supporting a large circular shade made of white cotton binding tape, the same material used in handmade books. This tape incorporates a subtle lateral rib that, when illuminated, projects soft, asymmetrical chiaroscuro, providing visual texture and ambient warmth.
The light source consists of three bulbs arranged radially beneath the shade, generating an enveloping, diffuse, and functional light, ideal for living rooms, studies, or offices seeking to combine aesthetics and comfort. Everything about the Moragas speaks of proportion, discretion, and practicality elevated to the level of design.
Selected by MIDIMAL for its historical value, its sculptural presence, and its ability to convey a way of living, the Moragas lamp is more than a light fixture: it is a piece that contains biography, context, and soul.
