In 1987, while international design was focusing on metal structures and cold light sources, Santa & Cole proposed a new direction: recovering warmth and naturalness through noble materials and local design. Thus was born the Basic M1, the lamp that inaugurated the Basic family , today one of the emblems of contemporary Spanish design.

Its structure consists of a solid wood cylinder, topped by a metal base of the same diameter—available in a bronze or nickel finish—that provides stability and visual balance. A variety of interchangeable shades in different shapes, fabrics, and colors, from stitched cardboard to woven ribbon, are handcrafted onto this base, allowing the lamp to be customized with its character and light output.

The simple silhouette and warm light of the Basic M1 make it a versatile piece, ideal for desks, nightstands, shelves, or professional spaces. For intensive use, it can be fitted with a wider lower base that reinforces its stability without compromising its aesthetics.
