Tekiò, a Japanese adaptation, fuses ancient artisanal techniques with Warm to Dim LED technology, which allows light intensity and color temperature to be regulated. Tekiò is a unique contemporary object; a contrast between the ancestral and the avant-garde, with highly technical structures dressed in handmade paper. Depending on the chosen combination, both circular and linear shapes can be modulated.
The inspiration for London-based designer Anthony Dickens was the traditional washi paper lantern, which dates back to the 14th century and is now a common object in the lives of many Japanese. This paper, made famous worldwide by Isamu Noguchi's Akari lamps, has been declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. It is strong and ductile, even malleable, and nuances the light with texture, creating pauses, a quiet voice. Seeking expert hands, Santa & Cole manufactures this paper dress in Mito, one of the Japanese cities specializing in its production.
